Carbon is well known in catalysis in two aspects: as a result of the "coking" process leading to the deactivation of catalyst, and as support for novel metals. Recently, carbon in all its allotropes is investigated as metal-free catalyst, in contrast to the traditional metal-containing catalyst. The symposium Carbon for Catalysis covers all the topics on its function as support and as catalyst. It includes synthesis, functionalization of carbon materials, and their characterisation (microscopic, spectroscopic) for applications in catalysis.
The CarboCat-IV symposium in Dalian is the successor of the CarboCat-I in Lausanne, 2004, CarboCat-II in St. Petersburg, 2006 and CarboCat III in Berlin, 2008. We are happy to have 15 invited speakers who are internationally renowned experts in the field, and have 20 oral and 78 poster presentations. All the presentations give an overview of state of the art of carbon in catalysis, deals with the basics challenge and the new trend in this importance research area.
The symposium is organised with the financial support of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Furthermore, we wish to thank our partners BP, for their generous support. .
