Abstract: The influence of the Mg : Al ratio on the phase composition and structure of the products of hydrotalcite restructuring was studied by X-ray diffraction. At a high Mg ion content, besides hydrotalcite, Mg(OH)2 and an interstratified phase consisting of hydrotalcite and Mg(OH)2 are also present. The real structure was studied by simulation of diffraction patterns using the DIFFaX program
