Abstract: The results of studies on the deposition of pyrocarbon onto the surface of carbon black are reported. It was found that this process obeys the basic laws of topochemical reactions, and the formation of pyrocarbon nuclei results from the sorption of high-molecular-weight products from a gas phase at the unsaturated carbon–carbon bonds of the support. The results obtained explain the influence of process conditions and the nature of the support on the characteristics of the resulting pyrocarbon.
